A couple of weeks ago, I received an email from Dan, a student candidate who seemed to be so worried about the grade that he registered in the just concluded Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examinations. Just to preempt what he jotted, he said that he scored an E in the exam. He is consequently jinxed and in a wave of confusion. His parents are furthermore not in good terms with him for the same; they see him as a liability and disgrace because they ‘wasted’ funds on him to finance his education in a prominent Kenyan extra-county school.
There is one thing I can tell Dan; there is no need to worry. There are lots of people out there who turned out to be successful in life without academic papers. Some of these people are even dictating the world’s economy. Just not to go far, there are several prominent Kenyan politicians whose secondary school qualifications and credentials have remained to be a puzzle.
These people have amassed lots of wealth and always move in most expensive locomotives, they have even employed bodyguards and drivers who take them behind a wheel wherever they go to. Someone can say that it’s perhaps due to fate and financially-buoyant family backgrounds; maybe, maybe not. Everyone has their own fate and destiny.
But what exactly can you do now that you registered that awkward grade in KCSE suppose that you are the son of a financially humble dad? Once again, worry not. There are several things to engage in so as to make your life a success. Have a look at them:
Think of starting a business
Several people have succeeded in carrying out various business activities. Check out this article in case you missed it. The fact remains that; the richest people in any given country or the world at large are entrepreneurs; they just attend school to learn some simple basic arithmetic. So come on board and think of a business idea, spot a market gap and evaluate your idea in to a profitable business. There are several ways of obtaining capital not limited to borrowing from friends, banks, inheritance from parents, selling assets such as land etc.
Rethink and focus on your talent
We have seen a good number of people reap from their talents especially in sports area. Think of people like Catherine Ndereva, Kipchoge Keino, David Rudisha , Julius Yego etc. These are people who are legends and therefore will live to be remembered in the world history. Fortunately, they discovered their talents earlier enough and some people mentored them. Someone like Yego discovered his ability in javelin and kept on practicing it till he is now the technocrat in it.
If you discovered your talent earlier enough, lucky you; all you need is just to go on practicing it. All in all, completing high school education acquaints you with enough time to practice your talents. Go out there; try everything till you settle on one major thing that you can do better. Practice it until you perfect it.
Acquire a camera
Photography has become a lucrative business nowadays. Many people want to see quality captions of their real self. Get a quality camera like Nikon and Canon and venture in to that business. Maintain your clients by giving them the best. Set up a good and attractive studio in a busy town like Nairobi and be on the go.
Never despise any form of work. Engage in Physical Work
Probably not the easiest way to make money, but it is legal. Doing physical jobs such as slashing, construction work and garden work, earns money. Be patient love your work, work tirelessly and earn daily bread. Work even harder, make savings and do something else.
Come out of your comfort zones and get exposed
With the weird grade that you may imagine of, luck can’t find you while at home. Expose yourself to avenues of luck. Get to know most of your relatives by paying them visits. Who knows? They may be having some opportunities for you. Nevertheless, go to towns like Nairobi; there are lots of opportunities there not limited to jobs that can earn you extra incomes. The major thing you need to have is a valid Kenyan national identity card or maybe a certificate of good conduct.
If you follow the tips I have mentioned above, you will find no need of having good grades and papers in life. I wish you best of luck as you purpose to struggle to lead a better life.
