This is an international program that provides a unique university based leadership experience and international cooperation. The program focuses on creating an international community of young scholars who will use their experience as a foundation for creating lasting friendships and acquiring common understanding of a more peaceful future. The program is funded by Fred.J.Hansen Foundation. Hansen Summer Institute will host all successful applicants at the University of San Diego School of Leadership and Education Sciences.

The program will involve classroom instruction, hands-on-training in the latest techniques of conflict resolution, mediation and inter-cultural management. Class room instructions will compliment local excursions to San Diego historical attractions and cultural events including a parade and harbor cruise.

Transport, accommodation will be paid for by Hansen Foundation. Successful applicants will only need to pay for passport fees and a United States visa fees.

Eligibility

  • All applicants must demonstrate leadership potential by having worked outside of class in community service, another public service or in a non-governmental organization.
  • A letter of reference from such a group must be provided.
  • Upper division undergraduate with two years of college or university graduate student with a professional interest in international relations, diplomacy, international economic development or related field.
  • Age should be 20 to 25 years old.
  • An English proficiency certificate.
